The history of Armodafinil

While having any medication such as Armodafinil which is a nootropic it is very important to understand how and why it was created.

To know the history about Armodafinil you first need to know the history about Modafinil. Modafinil was originally developed in France by the neurophysiologist Michel Jouvet and Lafon Laboratories in the 1970s and was offered as an experimental treatment for narcolepsy in 1986.It has been prescribed in France since 1994 under the name Modiodal, and in the US since 1998 as Provigil. Later in 1998 it was approved by the US FDA for the treatment of narcolepsy and then later in 2003 for SWD (shift work disorder) and sleep apnea. Now you must have read that the Cephalon Inc was the manufacturer of Modafinil which is only the half truth, in 2001 Cephalon Inc who originally leased the rights from Lafon, later on purchased the company from them.

Cephalon purchased Lafon Inc who was originally the patent from 1998 and after 10years their licensed was expired so to still be in the business they discovered Armodafinil which was no coincidence. So Cephalon created Armodafinil so that they can hold a new patent over for the next coming years. So the main purpose of discovering Armodafinil was to rake profits and hold a monopoly over the pharmaceutical market.

Armodafinil has pharmacological properties similar to that of Modafinil but the mechanism from which Armodafinil promotes wakefulness is unknown. Being an enantiopure of the wakefulness-promoting agent Modafinil both Armodafinil and Modafinil is used in the treatment of sleeping disorders but Armodafinil is said to be more effective when it comes to effectiveness. It only consists of just the (R) enantiomer of the racemic Modafinil but is considered stronger than Modafinil. Because of its being stronger than Modafinil makes it a purified version of the stronger active enantiomer. Armodafinil went under an experiment to be approved for jetlag but later on was not approved. It has a short history as it was only invented in 2007. So far it has been used to treat narcolepsy and excessive daytime sleepiness.

Armodafinil today

Armodafinil was not only used for the treatment of sleeping disorders but people started using it for a different purpose. Students started using it for increasing their concentration and alertness, in the sports industry it was called as a doping agent as it helps sportsman to push them to work out more, similarly, it has been used by the army pilots, new mothers, corporate people and much more.

Armodafinil is enantiopure of the wakefulness-promoting agent Modafinil. Both Armodafinil and Modafinil is used in the treatment of sleeping disorders but Armodafinil is said to be more effective when it comes to effectiveness. It only consists of just the (R) enantiomer of the racemic Modafinil.
